On the rim...Pre-trip
On our Canyon trip, we decided to hike in Hermit Trail from the south rim. The trail is 12 miles to the river and the elevation change is about 1 mile. Hermit Trail is a backcountry trail and camping requires a pass. |
About 2 mi. down & one layer of rock down!
The cut away terrain of the Grand Canyon is distinctive layers of different colored rock. These layers of rock quickly become individual goals of accomplishment. |

Lookout Point
Lookout Point is just under the half way point of the trail. It’s an outcropping of the red layer of rock that has 500’+ cliffs on three sides. |
Down river from just over half way down. The clouds and rain moved into the Canyon obscuring the upper (white) layer of rock. The Picture came out awesome (as most Grand Canyon pictures do) and makes great wallpaper. If you’d like a copy of it for your computer, just email me and I’ll email one back. |

Up river the shore at Granite Rapids
The temperature at the bottom is some 30 degrees higher than on the rim of the Canyon in March when we were down the temperature at the river was 80 to 90 but the rim was 50 to 60. Be ready for heat! I have been down in the Canyon around June 1st and the daytime high was 100 to 110 and the low at night was 90! |

Granite Rapids are huge rapids that for rafters are classified a 9 out of 10 on the Grand Canyon scale of difficulty. |

The Grand Canyon is one of those trips that you continually think to yourself "What am I doing here?" or "Does this @$#!% trail ever end?". Then once you get out the typical reaction is "I’m NEVER going back!" or "Lets get the $@&% out of Arizona". However, after the desert dust has been washed off and your home in your easy chair, telling someone about the trip…..In the back of your mind your thinking…."I
need to go back there some day".
Believe me…. I’ve been back 4 times and Carrie already wants to go back! |
