Scenery at McCurdy Park McCurdy Park is about in the center of the Lost Creek Wilderness Area in Colorado's Pike National Forest. Lost Creek was named for the creek that runs through the valley and disappears under ground off and on for several miles. The granite rock formations makes this wilderness one of our favorites. |
Quinza at Placer Valley Quinza's are like a cross between a Snow cave and an igloo. They are more stable than a snow cave but easier to build and faster than an igloo. |
Carrie @ Placer Valley Placer Valley is located on the south side of Hoosier Pass. It's an extremely wind blown valley with a series of reservoirs. |

Me @ Rabbit Ears Pass The cold way to camp! We didn’t get there early enough to build a Quinza. Rabbit Ears Pass is actually two passes with a great valley in between. It’s just east of Steamboat, CO and is a great place for early winter skiing and camping. |
The Family: Me, Carrie, Heather &Tyler This is on the trail at Lost Creek. You can see some of the great rock formations in the background. Heather was 9 here and Tyler was 7. |
